How long Invisalign treatment takes
Treatment time is an estimate based on the planned movements and expected cooperation. It is not a deadline that overrides biology or quality.
The plain answer
The more useful question is what can extend or shorten the specific plan.
Complexity, number of stages, aligner-change interval, prescribed wear, need for elastics, tooth response, missed appointments and refinements all affect duration. A patient may see visible changes early while still requiring months of bite coordination and finishing.
Ask for the estimated active-treatment range, monitoring schedule, likely refinement points and the assumptions behind the estimate. Then ask how the office decides that treatment is actually complete.

Long periods without aligners or progression through poorly fitting trays can delay movement and require new records.

Final detailing, root position, contacts and bite settling may continue after the most visible alignment is achieved.

The Prepare stage turns interest into a plan. A meaningful consultation should connect the clinical exam, photographs, digital scans and any necessary radiographs to a written treatment recommendation. It should also explain responsibilities, monitoring, refinements, retention, insurance and what happens if the original plan changes.
Manufacturer examples based on mild or moderate cases should not be applied to every patient. Finishing early because the front teeth look straight can leave bite goals incomplete.

Useful answers before a consultation
Can Invisalign work in six months?
Some mild cases can be completed in a shorter period, but only the treating provider can estimate the individual plan.
Do refinements mean treatment failed?
No. Additional aligners are a common planning tool when further correction or finishing is indicated.
Can I change trays faster to finish sooner?
Only follow the prescribed change schedule. Advancing early can reduce tracking and does not force teeth to move safely faster.
